Easy Cash from E-books
by Shaunna Privratsky
If you've been writing for a while, you could be
sitting on a goldmine of easy cash. Do you have an inventory of articles, short
stories, essays or other related works? Are those manuscripts gathering dust in
your files or on storage disks?
Give them new life and put money in your pocket
with PDF publishing. You simply compile an e-book of like-minded work, add it to
your website and watch the sales roll in.
The first step is to gather material that would
make a compelling collection. For example, several articles about farm equipment
could be sold as "Tilling the Land: a Look at Today's Farming Operations." A
series of essays about your cosmetic surgery could become "My New
Find your hook, the entry into your customer's
wants, needs or desires. Why would anyone want to buy your e-book? Offer a
solution to a problem, [how to write better], an inspirational read, [how I
overcame anorexia] or a relaxing story [girl meets boy, marries his brother].
Make sure you hold the copyright to your work if
it's been sold before. It's prudent to note what rights you are giving up when a
piece sells. Usually you can contact the previous publisher for reprint rights,
if you don't already have them.
Next, compile everything into a single document.
Give it a snazzy title and include an introduction and conclusion. Tie it to
your hook. You can add whatever you like, for instance an acknowledgement page,
an index, or an author's biography. The size of your e-book will vary
considerably, depending on how much you decide to include.
Think about what you want to accomplish: an
overview of a subject or an in-depth study, a quick read or a leisurely stroll
through memory lane.
One way to publish your e-book is to first put
it into a PDF file. There are numerous ways to do this. You can send it to
Dennis Richards at webmaster@TheResearch.net and they will convert it for you.
Or you can do it yourself by downloading a free PDF converter at http://pdf995.com/ You are directed on how to download your converter as a
printer. It takes about thirty minutes, but it is well worth the
An aggressive pop-up ad encourages you to

as far as it would go. The next time I turned on my computer, it was
Now all you have to do is open the document with
your completed information. Click on Print. Instead of your regular printer, go
to the drop-down menu and find PDF995. Click on that and in a very short time it
converts your work into a PDF document. Hint: save your new file with a one-word
title or no spaces to facilitate the next step.
Finally, upload your PDF file to your website
and create a download link for your customers to purchase it. Paypal is one way
to accept payments and they now have encrypted links and buttons to prevent
illegal downloading. Check your competitor's pricing and adjust accordingly.
Remember to add compelling copy and possibly a picture of the cover to intrigue
your customers and land the sale.
By following these simple steps, you will be
able to create, publish, market and sell your work. You probably already have
enough material or maybe a terrific idea for a best-selling e-book. Don't delay,
start today and soon you'll be riding the e-waves of desktop
